Who I am

With 7 years of teaching in Year 1, I am truly passionate about letting children be children and unleashing the magic that is learning. I’ve come to realise in my experience that children need more than just someone telling them information; children need to explore, investigate, problem-solve, collaborate and build their independence and resilience. All of this supports their understanding of the world and will give them the key skills needed to apply themselves to situations when they’re older.

I’ve made it my mission now to share my understanding of how to support children’s learning through a play-based approach and support other teachers and schools on their journey into this magic! Play can be developed on from the early years settings to equip children with what they need whilst also meeting curriculum requirements. I want to help as many people understand how this can be done effectively whilst also ensuring that pedagogy is at the centre.

Table with a plant, gardening tools, a book titled 'A Seed Is Sleepy', a basket of leaf-shaped coasters with tree images, and signs about planting and growing.
Continuous provision in action. Children's hands working on a craft project involving cardboard boxes, colored paper, scissors, and tape on a classroom table.

Enhancements should spark curiosity. They should draw children in. Simple resources like books, flashcards and a lightbox can go a long way.

Interactions are all about getting to know the children and responding to them. Noticing what they’re interested in, making a link to the curriculum then challenging them and facilitating further learning. Having core resources stored somewhere helps me!

Let things get messy and watch their joy! Consider what a 5 year old wants to explore and how they might use a resource creatively.
